Rubber Casters · Quiet & Floor-Kind

Quiet, Cushioned Rolling That Spares the Floor

a hard wheel passes every floor seam and bump straight into the load and rattles on tile. a rubber tread does the opposite — it cushions the shock, runs quiet, and, in grey non-marking compound, rolls across finished floors without leaving a streak.

JRT grey odourless rubber swivel caster, 100mm 80kg

On hard floors, a hard wheel is loud and unkind. nylon, cast iron, even firm PU pass every tile seam, threshold, and bit of grit straight up into the cargo, and they clatter down a corridor. in a hospital, a hotel, or a showroom that is exactly the wrong behaviour — and ordinary black rubber can leave dark streaks on a light floor.

A rubber tread answers both. grey odourless rubber is soft, runs quiet, and is compounded so it does not mark finished floors or carry a strong rubber smell — the usual pick for medical carts and hospitality. black elastic rubber trades a little of that for more load and stronger shock absorption, so trolleys cross thresholds and floor gaps without jarring the frame or the goods.

The loads shown are real per build: grey odourless at 100mm / 80kg in swivel, braked, and fixed; black elastic at 125mm / 300kg swivel and 100mm / 220kg in the braked bolt-hole build. all run on precision ball bearings that lower starting effort by about 15–20%, and the range meets ANSI/ICWM and ISO 22883 requirements.

Where rubber is not the right wheel: rubber carries less and rolls with a little more effort than a hard PU or nylon wheel, it can take a flat spot if a load sits on it unmoved for a long time, and it softens and breaks down near heat. for higher load or lower rolling effort on smooth floors choose a PU wheel; for bakery and oven racks choose a phenolic or cast-iron high-temperature caster. tell us the floor, the load, and the duty and we point you to the right tread.

Rubber caster & procurement FAQ

Grey odourless or black elastic rubber — which should I choose?
Choose grey odourless rubber for hospitals, hotels, and retail on finished floors: it is soft, runs quiet, does not mark, and has no strong rubber smell. choose black elastic rubber where you need more load and shock absorption, such as warehouse trolleys crossing thresholds and uneven gaps.
What loads do they carry?
The grey odourless range shown is 100mm rated to 80kg per caster in swivel, braked, and fixed; black elastic is 125mm rated to 300kg swivel and 100mm rated to 220kg in the braked bolt-hole build. other sizes and loads are rated per model on your quote.
Are rubber casters as strong as PU or nylon?
No, and that is the trade-off. rubber carries less and rolls with a little more effort than a hard PU or nylon wheel, but it cushions shock, runs quiet, and protects floors. for higher load or lower rolling effort on smooth floors, a PU wheel is the better fit.
Can rubber casters be used near heat?
No. rubber softens and breaks down in heat, so keep it away from ovens and hot processes. for bakery and oven racks use a phenolic or cast-iron high-temperature caster instead.
Why is grey rubber called non-marking?
Grey rubber is compounded so it does not leave the dark streaks that ordinary black rubber can leave on light tile or finished floors. it is the usual choice where the floor finish matters, such as hospitals and hotels.
Can you supply these under our brand in mixed-load orders?
Yes. we laser-etch or pad-print your logo or ship unbranded with neutral cartons, and consolidate grey and black rubber casters with other caster types into one mixed-load container at distributor scale. FOB and CIF supported.
