Spring Casters That Take the Hit So the Load Doesn’t

a rigid caster passes every floor joint, threshold, and pothole straight into the load. a coil spring in the fork lets the wheel travel and absorb the impact — on PU-on-cast-iron wheels, 4″–8″, for heavy-duty and towed equipment.

JRT zinc-plated shock-absorbing spring caster

On a hard floor with joints, thresholds, and the odd pothole, a rigid caster has nowhere to put the shock — so it goes straight up into the cart and whatever it carries. our shock-absorbing casters put a coil spring in the fork: when the wheel meets an edge, the spring compresses and lets the wheel travel, so the impact is soaked up instead of passed to the load.

The wheel underneath is a polyurethane tread on a cast-iron core — it carries the weight, rolls easily, and protects the floor while the spring handles the bumps. sizes run 4″ to 8″ (about 100–200 mm), and precision dual ball bearings keep starting and rolling effort down by 15–20% even on a loaded trolley.

Spring choice follows the load: single-spring forks for lighter, steadier weights and double-spring forks for heavier loads and rougher ground. the key is to keep the working load below the rated capacity so the spring still has travel to cushion. forks come zinc-plated or in a baked finish, the range meets ANSI/ICWM and ISO 22883 requirements, and bespoke spring rates follow a 24–48h drawing path.

Where they earn their keep

Logistics

Carts over joints & thresholds

Loaded trolleys crossing dock plates, floor joints, and door thresholds, where rigid wheels jolt the stack.

Towed & AGV

Tugger trains & AGVs

Towed trains and automated guided vehicles that run continuously and need a settled load over imperfect floors.

Rough ground

Yard & outdoor moves

Machinery and equipment moved across uneven yard, dock, and outdoor surfaces.

Shock-absorbing & procurement FAQ

How do shock-absorbing casters work?
A coil spring in the fork lets the wheel travel up and down. when the wheel hits a floor joint, threshold, or pothole, the spring compresses and absorbs the impact instead of passing it straight into the load.
How do I size a spring caster to the load?
Keep the working load below the caster’s rated capacity so the spring still has travel left to absorb shocks. a spring run at its limit bottoms out and stops cushioning, so we match the spring rate to your actual load.
What is the difference between single-spring and double-spring?
Single-spring forks suit lighter, steadier loads; double-spring forks give more travel and support for heavier loads and rougher ground. we advise the right one for your weight and surface.
What wheel and finish are used?
Polyurethane tread on a cast-iron core carries the load and protects the floor. forks come zinc-plated or in a baked paint finish for corrosion resistance in workshop, dock, and outdoor use.
Do they roll easily under load?
Precision dual ball bearings lower manual starting and rolling resistance by about 15–20%, which helps on loaded carts and towed trolleys.
Can you make a custom spring caster and ship under our brand?
Yes. send your load, size, and mount and we confirm a drawing within 24–48h, with roughly 12-day mould work for bespoke parts. we laser-etch or pad-print your logo or ship unbranded with neutral cartons, and consolidate into mixed-load containers at distributor scale.
